My name is Nancy Qataris. I'm Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. My understanding of the mission of higher education is that we provide access for undergraduate students, and that we give back to the community. And we do that not only through education, but also through research. And so what I have done is, I hire faculty who have those same values. The faculty are highly engaged with our undergraduates and the students then are able to prosper advance get excited, because they have some of the cutting edge researchers teaching them in the classroom. Since I've arrived, of course, the expansion of the mission from undergraduate education to graduate education and research has happened. areas that are going to be important moving forward are environmental issues, health issues, issues regarding humanities and democracy and equity, and sustaining our cancer research. A student who graduates from this college should be very confident in their ability to walk into any situation and be able to succeed
